{"id":38012,"date":"2025-09-09T20:08:59","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T20:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nctatechnicalp.wpenginepowered.com\/?p=38012"},"modified":"2025-09-09T20:08:59","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T20:08:59","slug":"wireless-and-home-networking-a-foundation-for-service-provider-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nctatechnicalpapers.com\/?p=38012","title":{"rendered":"Wireless and Home Networking:  A Foundation for Service Provider Applications"},"content":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The explosion in the variety of<br \/>\nConsumer Electronic (CE) devices and<br \/>\napplications that deliver video and internet<br \/>\nexperiences has produced the need for simple<br \/>\nand integrated home networking solutions.<br \/>\nThe cable TV community has analyzed, tested<br \/>\nand debated the viability of offering home<br \/>\nnetworking solutions for many years but<br \/>\ncompetitive pressures and technology<br \/>\nadvancements has finally prompted near term<br \/>\naction.<\/p>\n<p>Although the home networking environmental<br \/>\nconditions are reaching an inflection point,<br \/>\nthe standards, consortiums and technologies<br \/>\nare very fragmented and the network operator<br \/>\neconomics justifying a service offering can be<br \/>\nmarginal.<\/p>\n<p>This paper focuses on various wireless home<br \/>\nnetworking technologies and solutions. The<br \/>\ndrivers for home networking are considered<br \/>\nand a variety of wireless home networking<br \/>\nconfigurations are discussed.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary test results from both a<br \/>\nperformance and economic basis are<br \/>\nevaluated. Of particular importance will be to<br \/>\nassess the user and operator experience from<br \/>\na set-up and maintenance perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusion section will contrast the<br \/>\ntechnical and economic characteristics and<br \/>\nbenefits of the various wireless home<br \/>\nnetworking solutions.
