In this paper, we discussed the background, limitations and challenges of operating the PCMM at scale. We also discussed our proposed new solution at Comcast \u2013 the \u201cvCMTS as a service\u201d APIs which not only simplifies our end-to-end system, serves as a scalable, secure, extensible, and lightweight alternative to the PCMM, but also creates new growth opportunities for us to explore in dynamic QoS, service mobility, on-demand microtransaction use cases, and beyond.
